Wendy
Wendy McGrael Head Coach

Coach Wendy brings energy, passion, and a love for the water to every practice. With a lifelong background in swimming, she believes that the pool is the perfect place to build confidence, resilience, and teamwork!

Wendy began swimming at a young age and quickly developed a deep appreciation for the sport. After years of competitive swimming, she transitioned into coaching to help the next generation of swimmers discover their potential and enjoy the journey just as much as she did.

As a coach, Wendy focuses on creating a positive and encouraging environment where swimmers of all levels can grow. Whether athletes are learning their first legal stroke or chasing personal best times, Wendy loves helping each swimmer reach new milestones. She is especially passionate about building strong team culture, celebrating progress, and reminding swimmers that hard work and fun can go hand in hand.

When she’s not on the pool deck, Wendy enjoys staying active and finding new ways to make practices engaging, challenging, and fun for her swimmers. During the off-season, she is a teacher with Prince William County Schools and serves as the head coach at Osbourn Park High School, where she continues to share her love of swimming with student-athletes.

Coach Wendy is excited for her 11th season with the Dolphins and looks forward to helping swimmers grow, race fast, and have plenty of fun along the way!

Coach Abby Head Coach

Coach Abby is excited to return for her sixth year as a Dolphins coach. Coach Abby has proudly been part of the team for 16 seasons, dedicated to helping swimmers grow and achieve their best in and out of the pool. Outside of Wellington, Coach Abby grew up swimming year-round and was the captain of her high school swim team. During the off season, Coach Abby coaches for Prince William Swim Club, Endorphin Fitness, and the Prince William Aquatics Center. One of her proudest moments was winning Best Swim Instructor of Prince William in 2024. Coach Abby is also a rising senior at George Mason University, where she is majoring in Occupational Therapy.

Her philosophy for coaching is kids need to have fun while learning good stroke technique and a love for the sport of swimming. Even though swimming is an individual sport for the most part, she tries and stress the importance of being a good teammate and sport. It is really important that her swimmers to treat each other with kindness and care. She loves to use stroke progressions and drills to teach good technique. You will hear Coach Abby correcting a lot from the deck, because she believes it is extremely important to do stroke drills correctly. She strives to provide individual feedback while swimmers are swimming so swimmers can correct their technique immediately, rather than practice incorrect form. We celebrate little wins in the water that may not seem like a big deal, but little wins add up to big improvements in the water. Her hope for the season is that swimmers will improve their times, learn new strokes or turns, improve stroke technique and most importantly have fun while feeling confident!
