Mini Dolphins

Space in the Mini Dolphins Program is limited to 50 swimmers. REGISTER EARLY! Minis typically sells out.

The Mini Dolphins program is available for kids ages 3-8 who are not quite ready to swim at a competitive level, but are enthusiastic about becoming a member of the Wellington Dolphins Competitive Team in the future.

While the program is set up to provide a transition from developing swimmers to the Competitive Team, we want children to have a good time! There will be no pressure to move up quickly, but simply to get better each practice.

The Minis are part of the Wellington Dolphins Swim and are included in team-wide activities and events.

  • Our Team Photo
  • Pep Rallies on Fridays before away meets. (If you want to help, let us know and we will direct you to the right person.)
  • Pool Parties and Late Night Swims
  • Participate in Spirit Week (last week of season)
  • Come to the Pancake Breakfast (Friday morning before Divisionals-extra help always welcome!)
  • End-of-Season Awards Presentation (Every Mini Dolphin is recognized.)
  • End-of-Season Awards After-party at the Wellington Pool

Mini Dolphins FAQ

How many Mini Dolphins will you accept to the program? The Mini Dolphins program accepts 50 swimmers.

Is there a waitlist if Mini Dolphins are full? If the program is sold out, send us an email letting us know you are interested in registering your swimmer if there is an opening.

Do you accept Mini Dolphins over 8 years old? Our Mini Dolphin program is designed for younger swimmers. By age 9, your swimmer should be ready to be part of our Competitive Team. If you are not sure, or want more information, send an email to our Head Coach.

What if I am not sure if my swimmer should be on Minis or on the Competitive Team? Send an email to our Head Coach. She can give you recommendations based on the experience of your swimmer.

When do the Mini Dolphins start practicing? Mini Dolphins begin practicing after school is out. Practice goes through the end of July.

Why are practices only in the morning? The pool is not open to the Community until 11:00 a.m. This allows Mini Dolphins to use the shallow end of the pool for practice.

What about swim meets? What should I expect? Mini Dolphins do not participate in Competitive Team meets.

Do I need to purchase a Wellington Dolphins team suit and a cap for my Mini Dolphin? No have your swimmer wear their regular swim suit. Suits that are two-piece are not ideal. Check with the coach if you are unsure you have an appropriate suit for Mini Dolphin practices.

What is expected of me in terms of volunteering if my child is in the Mini Dolphin program? If you have no other swimmers on the team in the Summer Competitive program, you are not expected to volunteer to help with meets. There may be special activities geared towards the Mini Dolphin program, so we may call upon you to assist.

Is my child expected to graduate from Mini Dolphins into the Summer Competitive Team? That is our hope. Our Mini Dolphin program is a starting place for swimmers (or parents) looking to learn to swim for a competitive program. We hope to see all our Minis in our 8 and Under Competitive group when they are ready.
